New shit

1 min read
I'm not sure I like this new Deviantart, it took me twenty god damn minutes just to figure out how to update this thing.

I'm still alive, and busy with some shit that I hope lots of people buy, because I'm once again very poor.   crypt.abnormalcy.org

Today's Rant: FASHION AND STYLE

There are very few things that piss me off, in fact it takes quite a bit for something to get to the point where I actually speak negatively about it.  Todays rant is about one such thing: fashion and style.
I am a firm believer in uniqueness.  If you want to pierce yor lip, or dye your hair green then by all means, do it.  Yet it seems, that in an age of being "unique" I'm seeing more and more people moving to that Abercrombie and Fitch or Old Navy look.  You know what I'm talking about, the really tight jeans (sometimes even faded) with the $30 belt and tight white shirts.  I would normally have no problem with such a trend, if it were not for the fact that everyone who adorns said style believes that everyone else should look like that in order to look "good".
I have several friends who frequently shop at an Abercrombie and Fitch, an Old Navy, and a myriad of other stores with similar fashions.  To them, if you don't look like a model from one of their magazines, you aren't good looking.  Got dyed hair? Yep, it's ugly, no matter how you style it.  Wear black shirts? Yep, you're a goth.  And unless you're wearing the most expensive clothing from one of sad stores, don't even bother trying to dress to impress.
These people have little to no sense of individuality.  They generally listen to the same kind of music, talk to the same kind of people, and openly hate change.  Heard a new song by Oakenfold the other day and think they would like it? Nope.  They hate techno, even though they've never even heard it.  These people are the product of ads and magazines by multimillion dollar companies solely for the sake of paying off their new BMW's.
The truly sad fact is that they actually buy into the bullshit and openly accept such images of perfection as being real.  They base their idea of perfection off of imperfect people who have been digitally edited in order to express what the company sees as the "ideal" person.  Sure they will openly deny the fact that they base their idea of beauty off of what they see on t.v. or in magazines, yet the very clothing they wear, the styling of their hair, and the myriad of accessories they wear says otherwise.
The fact that such huge companies can openly influence an entire generation with such illicitly fake ideas of perfection just sickens me.  You want to look perfect like all the models in the magazines? Guess what, IT'S NOT POSSIBLE.  SO STOP TRYING.  It's just like those morons who go out and "trick out" their cars and make their crappy four-cylinders look like race cars.  THEY ARE NOT RACE CARS, SO STOP PRETENDING THAT THEY ARE.  It's the exact same idea, yet so many people are blind to it.  The next time I walk by an Abercrombie and Fitch I'm going to laugh, not to be mean, but because they are buying into a milliondollar compaign to redefine what they want society to perceive as being beautiful.  And since many of the people that actually buy into it dont even realize it and are too stubborn to change, I dont see it ending anytime soon either.
This is where I'm going to plug eric- for his t-shirt designs.  They can be found here: www.deviantart.com/view/727594 .  He has yet to sell them, but if you are taking the time to read this, then I urge you to send him a note or comment on his work urging him to get these printed.  It's the kind of originality in fashion and design that is slowly being burried by all of the large corporate bullshit being printed on shirts and pants these days.

Today's Rant: STUPIDITY

When you ask someone off the street what they think defines the word "stupid", the common answer will most likey be "a lack of common sense."  But there are many different kinds of stupidity that don't necessarily fall under the idea of a lack of common sense.  There are things like a lack of a realistic point of view, a lack of self worth, a lack of thought and many many more.  Although to some, these may not sound like qualities that would define someone as stupid, they are, in many ways, the foundation for the general stupidity in today's society.
Take for example, all of the high school kids walking around wearing all black and listening to metal music.  Now I'm not talking about the kids that listen to Metallica or what they call "heavy metal".  I'm talking about the kids these days going around preaching how their life sucks, and how society has made them this way.  They say that they've been rejected, and go on and on about just how bad their life is because of the shit they get everyday.  This is your classic case of a general lack of a realistic point of view.  They spend so much time listening to their music, and talking about how people have made them that way, that they don't realize the realistic aspect of their situation.  To them, it's everyone elses fault, in reality, no one jumped them, put a gun to their head and said "wear blakc clothes, listen to dark music, and tell everyone how bad your life sucks".  How they look, and how they act is because they wanted to do it.   It's that simple.  This leads to my next example, the classic "my girlfriend/boyfriend left me, now my life is a mess, I hate everything, life sucks" kind of person.
This kind of person is very much like the goth kids.  They see what they want to see, and they believe what they want to believe, no matter what anyone tries to tell them.  Call it stubbornness, call it what you will, but the basic fact is that they do not have a realistic view of life and even, to an extent, a lack of self worth.  If everyone killed themself because someone dumped them, there would be very few people left.  Meeting people is a part of life, and you're never going to find that special person unless you get out there and meet people.  It's basic math.  More people = more opportunites = greater percentage of people who aren't right for you.  It's a very simple and obvious idea.  Yet I see it time and time again, all because these people can't grasp the simple realities of life: you are not the ugliest person in the world because someone dumped you, it is not the end of the world when you are conforming to the basic statistics of life, and life only truly sucks if you let it suck.  This brings up a valuable point; people don't think enough.
Some might call this a lack of common sense, but I think it's much more than just common sense, it's more of a complete and utter lack of thought in general.  Take, for example, this whole equality thing.  It's about creating equal opportunities for everybody, regardless of race, religion, and whatever else might be used to divide the general populous.  Now don't be one of the people I'm talking about here and start thinking I'm racist.  What I'm talking about is things like jobs, where one company might hire someone to give them the image of an equal opportunity employer, when someone else was better qualified for the job.  Now seriously, how much sense does that make?  Who cares about ethnicity, or color, or religion, if someone is better qualified for the job, be they man or woman, white or black, protestant or jewish, they should get the job.  It's thinking about the fact that some guy working next to you was hired for the betterment of the companies image, rather than the company itself.  If that isn't a lack of thinking then please, feel free to send hate mail my way.  There are a great many other things that fall under this category, such as someone buying a $4,000 computer when the closest thing they've ever used was a typewriter back in 1976 and then trying to tell a tech support guy that the tech support sucks.  Or those politicians blaming todays violence on video games.  If you don't know what you're doing, please DON'T DO IT and if you don't know what you're talking about DON'T SAY IT. It's THAT simple.  What? Playing DOOM made those kids shoot people? So apparently there's never been any violence before the invention of video games, which was what, no more than 20 years ago? It's the general lack of facts, that really pisses me off, and there are MANY other instances where this can be further reinforced, but for the sake of the brevity of this rant, I'll leave it as is.
I would like to say that there is one bastion of hope that is the collective stupidness of todays society, and that is the internet.  The internet has the power to do what people have been trying to do for years, and that is to pu everyone on the same level, where race, gender, and religion don't matter.  With the invention of the internet, no one knows that the person their talking to lives in China and practices Buddhism unless that person wants them to know.  But as with all things, even the greatest things are prone to be invaded by the power of stupid in large groups.
Things like message boards have given people the idea that they should share their stupidity with others.  Once again, if you don't know what you're talking about, THEN SHUT UP.  I've seen people talk about how the problems in the Middle East could be solved, when they have the sentence structure of a 12 year old, and don't even know what the problems are about.  If you have the time, I ask you to go check out this guys site:maddox.xmission.com/ &nbs… there with the ideas that I have talked about, use common sense, dont take everything seriously, and try to find the true genius behind his work.  Yes he may be a bit vulgar, and a bit mean at times, but when you read his responses to his hate mail, he reinforces everything that I've been talking about.  He proves a powerful point: if you're going to rant, comment, or do anything in general, do it with common sense and in a well thought out manner.
If people truly thought things out logically, and thoroughly, there would be a lot less problems in people's lives and things would certainly be a lot better for everyone.
